The internationally renowned climate scientist Dr. James Hansen will be speaking at a free public lecture entitled “Shape Our Future: Energy, Climate Change & Human Rights”. This is co-hosted by Citizens’ Climate Lobby – Omaha Chapter, Nebraskans for Peace and the John C. Kenefick Faculty Chair in the Humanities at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.

In 1988, Dr. Hansen brought global warming to the attention of the world with his testimony before Congress. His testimony is widely regarded as a pivotal moment in public awareness of climate change.

He served as director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies for over 30 years and is currently Adjunct Professor at Columbia University’s Earth Institute where he directs a program in Climate Science, Awareness and Solutions. Dr. Hansen was designated by Time Magazine in 2006 as one of the 100 most influential people on Earth. He is also an outspoken climate activist. He is on the Advisory Board of Citizens’ Climate Lobby. The recent global demonstrations in support of climate action gives Dr. Hansen’s talk added timeliness and urgency.
